Trends on Tuesday: What’s Currently the No. 1 Smartphone in the U.S.?

Here are a few of the key trends ComScore found in the U.S. smartphone industry for June 2014:

  • 173 million people in the U.S. owned smartphones during the second quarter of 2014, up 4% since the previous quarter.
  • OEM Market Share: Apple ranked as the top OEM (original equipment manufacturer) with 42.1% of smartphone subscribers, up 0.7% from the previous quarter. Samsung ranked second with 28.6% market share, up 1.6%.
  • Platform Market Share: Android ranked as the #1 smartphone platform in June with 51.9% market share, followed by Apple with 42.1% (up 0.7% from the previous quarter).
  • Smartphone App Market Share: Facebook ranked as the top smartphone app, reaching 73.6% of the app audience, followed by YouTube (52.1%), Google Play (52.1%) and Google Search (47.9%).
