Katina Rae Stapleton is a program officer within the Institute of Education Sciences (IES), at the U.S. Department of Education. In this role, Katina oversees research training programs, as well as research portfolios on education leadership and highly mobile students. She also provides guidance to IES on communications, including plain language, and diversity and inclusion issues. Katina has provided plain language training for federal agencies for several years and became the co-chair of the federal Plain Language Action and Information Network (PLAIN) in 2020. Katina has an undergraduate degree in print journalism from the University of Maryland at College Park and a Ph.D. in Political Science from Duke University, where she specialized in political communication. Before joining the federal government, Katina was an Assistant Professor of Political Science at Syracuse University.
